Is my hard disk damaged ?

-i have a sony vaio laptop with windows 7 home premium.yesterday when i tried restoring it failed.i tried again and it failed.i gave it to a sony service centre , they said that the harddisk failed to boot and i have to buy a new harddisk. Do i really have to change my harddisk? You did not mention, when it failed, how it failed and what was the error message if there any.

Most likely your hard drive is still good. If it worked a minuted before you tried to restore it, then it is still good. If you tried to restore it from the recovery partition, it is possible that the recovery partition had problem from the begin with and the service centre will not admit it.

If you are trying to boot from a Win 7 Disc, make sure your first boot device in BIOS is set to CD/DVD drive.Failing to boot and replacing the HD are two different things...ALMOST.

Did the service center try to reload the OS? If so and it wouldn't load, then the HD may need replaced. If they didn't attempt this and just suggest replacing the HD, they may be trying the easy way out. In any case it sounds as if the BOOT sector of the HD has indeed failed but given the information here it's hard to determine if all the proper steps to recover the HD have been taken. //Steve
Not always, no. If it failed try the CHKDSK as mentioned, if that comes up with no problems try to format it, if it wont format from your computer ask a friend to try format it for you, if that fails, yes you need a new one, an external harddrive will work as long as you set the boot device priority to boot from external or usb.
It depends, are you able to boot into Windows?

Try booting from a Windows CD/DVD and running "chkdsk /f" from the command console.
first try using a external hd or usb drive of ur friend

if it helps then go buy it

Few questions regarding new Acer Laptop?

-Hi!

I just got a new acer laptop. I removed most of the unneeded software like games, etc. Now I have some issues with it I can't resolve myself.

1. I was wondering why it had one big hard disk, I'm used to having two disks, one C: and one D:

Is that bad, since I plan on playing games and don't feel comfortable installing 14 gigs or more game on the same drive as Windows, or more than 150 GB of music...

2. It is supposed to have 750 GB hard, yet I see 685 GB written on the single C: drive.

3. As far as I know it has both Nvidia and Intel graphics card. Dxdiag says Intel HD, is there any way to force the laptop to use the nvidia one? Or will my games use the Nvidia one without me touching anything?

Laptop is Acer Aspire 5745G

Intel Core i5-460m 2.53 ghz

Nvidia GeForce GT 420m 2gb

4 RAM, 750 GB HDDYou don't seem to have a recovery partition, which seems a little odd, but it's no big deal. Use the included software to create recovery disks or a system image in the event of a crash. See the Backup and Restore applet in Control Panel. Get an external drive for backups if your data is important to you.

The difference in size is a result of the way GB are calculated. The makers of HDs use decimal, and computers use binary. You have the right size.

It's my understanding these laptops will switch to the proper video configuration automatically. You might get ride of lot of the information that you have done already but there is still lots of stuff on there that you don't want to mess with if you delete a wrong file you can mess up your laptop really they don't take off as much as you think my computer is an Acer. . The c: drive is one of the drivers for like the stuff you have in you disk drive that's why the C: drive is up there the D: drive is where lot of the information is and you don't want to mess with that you can add and remove drives but i recommend you not to just in-case both drives might have some impotent information. . So watch out what you might be getting read of. . email me at scottielucas15@hotmail.com and tell me some of the issues and i might be able to help you. . I like working with computers. . Can I get my work back?

-I was working on something for school in WordPad for about an hour and I was about to save when I got the dreaded blue screen of death. The computer re-started and I lost my work. Is there any way to get my work back? No, if it wasn't saved then it was just in RAM which was cleared as soon as it lost power.

When working on anything save often and when you're finished make a backup of the file.Yes you can, you'll need a time machine though.
time machine, or retype.

I don't know the socket type to search it from the website itself..

Can you please tell me which socket does suit for this series of motherboards so that i can search in the website..

thank youfirst download a chipset identifier called speccy install it, run it. this will give every information about your pc main hardware name version and type. ok now look for motherboard on the right side list you will see the name and model of that motherboard so for instance look at screen shot below

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/3492/鈥?/a>

as you can see the name of the motherboard is highlighted and the model number at the end. now that you know the name and model number of your motherboard go the link below and enter that same information you see on speccy. if you cannot see your motherboard information please send me your specs from speccy go to file and then click on save as text file and save as speccy file.

Help macbook pro flashing question mar folder on startup?

-Hey guys i have a problem, i was messing around with my mac to try and install os x onto my netbook and during the process i might have tweaked with the system a little bit, now whenever i start it up it always shows a flashing question mark. I reinstalled os x and reset the pram but no luck. I also ran the disk utility repair thingy but it didn't help. I think it has to do with the start up options, like i think i might have set it to start up from a usb or something, how can i fix this?Even if you set OSX to boot from USB, it should look elsewhere (like on your hard drive) if it doesn't find a bootable system there.

Troubleshooting tips for addressing this problem are covered here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570

In brief, the steps in increasing order of pain-in-the-xxx are:

1. Disconnect all peripheral devices, if any, and try again.

2. Boot in Safe Mode by restarting with the Shift key held down. This resets some things. Then restart again and see if all is well.

3. If not, reset the PRAM by restarting with the Option, Apple, P, and R keys all held down. (I know you tried this already.)

4. If that doesn't help, boot from your OSX installation or system restore disk by inserting the disk in your DVD drive and restarting with the C key held down. Then, run Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and then repair permissions. (Here, too, I see you say you tried this, but you have to boot from your DVD drive to repair the drive.)

5. If that doesn't help, re-install OSX. You can do this without losing your apps, files, or settings by doing an "archive and install." You'll need to run Software Update afterward, though, to get back to the most recent version of OSX.

Processor speed vs. number of processors?

-I am looking to get a laptop very soon and one of the most important things to me is how fast it runs. Laptop A has the Phenom II Dual-Core and runs at 3.0 GHz. Laptop B has the Phenom II Quad-Core but runs at 2.2 GHz. Which one would be the better option? That depends on the software that you're running. Most software only runs on one or two processor threads, in this situation the dual core processor with a higher clock speed will perform the best. Tasks such as video encoding or ray tracing that can use all of the processor cores will run better on the quad core with the lower clock speed. If you enjoy running quite a number of programs while you do other things, then i suggest you go quad core. If not, then go dual core.

So quad really really helps if you're going to be doing a lot of multitasking, RAM helps too, and quad core is also a good investment into the future since programs are catching up.

If you can get a quad core, then get it.

Will gta 4 work buy downgrading it into shader model 2.0 ???????????????

-2gb ram

300gb hdd

nvidia 256 mb fx5500

intel pentium 4 3.0ghz

can i play gta 4 buy downgrading to shader model 2.0 or smething if yes then give me the linkyour system cannot run GTA 4.that Nvidia fx series is ancient.your card does not support shader model 3.0.your single core pentium 4 is way below what GTA 4 really neede.that is a old processor too.

time for upgrade!
No it won't. You have no chance of running GTA 4 with an Nvidia FX series graphics card, not only that but your Pentium 4 processor is far too weak.

AMD Quad Core A6 vs. Intel Core i3?

-I am about to buy a new laptop,m and I am debating between two different ones. One has the AMD Quad Core A6 3400m processor and the other has the Intel COre i3 processor. They are about the same price, and I just wanted to know which one is better and faster. I will use this laptop for just casual everyday use, music, video chat, school stuff, and just surfing the web. Any suggestions will help. Thank you!the a6 is Superior. it has a dedicated 1 gb graphics card in a fusion design. that means the processor and graphics card share the same physical space but they operate independently.it allows it to run more efficiently and powerfully.by running more efficiently, it saves on the life of your battery and your laptop. the i3 you rooking at probably has integrated graphics, not dedicated like the a6. the a6 also has turbo boost, that means it runs slow normally, but when it needs to operate faster/more powerfully, it turbo boosts up to 2.5 ghz, which is more then enough for any program.in addition the A6 is a quad core processor. so for price, efficiency, and power the A6 is superior. it is a brand new processor that just came out, so i would not be surprised if alot of the commenter's did not know they specs of this processor. if you need more help, feel free to contact me.The new AMD A series processor is superior to the Intel core i series in most regards, especially in graphics where it kicks Intel's ***!! I would go with the AMD A series. Here are a few models to consider:

Could you Put 1gb of RAM and add 2gb of another Ram?

-well I'll buying gpu and wanna add Ram on my computer.Yes, you can run a 1GB stick next to a 2GB stick just fine. You really should add a second 2GB stick though, so the memory runs in dual-channel mode like they're supposed to. 1GB + 2GB won't run in dual-channel.as long asx the clock's r the same i.e 1333mhz or 1600mhz etc then you should be fine, though the same RAM values side by side are preffered for dual channel compatability, and make the most out of ur ram
On most motherboards it will work, but when RAM sticks are different sizes the memory runs in slower single-channel mode instead of dual-channel mode.
depends on your computer motherboard. Check the instruction manual
Depends on the machine, but in most cases this isn't a problem

Will this run flight simulator on mid or high settings?

I don't have the laptop yet so i cant use "can you run it"yes.. you have more than required for most flight sims. I've been using <a href="http://flightsimulatorplus.com">Fl鈥?Simulator</a> Plus for several months now with even less memory, and it works great. It's a sim you should try if you're looking for a professional flight simulator.Yes it should be able to run. The basic to do is to know the requirements of the game..I am very sure yes, you can do it and run it well. The specifications seem pretty strong and you should also download RegInOut Cleaner to improve its performance.
The graphics card isn't that good. Try this laptop recommender: http://laptoprec.com

Just bought a new netbook online and it is not showing anything apart from black screen and white words?

-it got delivered today but its not working, it only shows a black screen and some language i don't understand. I need help please. Its SAMSUNG BRAND.Need more information. Anyway, is your notebook equipped with an operating system? If not then that could be the problem. Also the boot order might need to change. Try getting into the bios By hitting key "F2" make sure it is set to Boot to hardrive first. (might be worded differently) for example boot priority or something. Also try running a system Diagnostic on the hard drive and memory if you can get into the BIOS. Also do you hear any noise from the hard drive?

Hope this helpsMaybe you should type out what the message is.聽 Someone else may be able to translate it.聽 It's impossible to try and guess what that message is, and it's most likely telling what the problem is.

Compatability of certain games with windows xp?

-So having had my first question answered i now have another one. Will games designed for windows 95/98 be compatible with windows xp? They say on the back system requirements compatible with windows 95/98. They definately dont work with vista. These games include the simon the sorcerer series, by aventure soft, various lucas arts games (although i have never had a problem with them been compatible with anything, they always run no matter what system) and vrious other games from the early 90's timeframe, And if so which version of xp would be best for me?

(bit dim when it comes to computers so please keep it simple :) )Xp has only 1 version. XP. XP has updates called Service Packs.

90% of games should work, if they are running 2 fast. I suggest using DosBox

If you want games with confirmed compatibility which has been updated for newer version of windows I suggest buying the games from

http://www.gog.com/

They have reprogrammed the games to be able to work even on Windows 7. Also all games are DRM free.
Download steam then use your old key codes on the back of the book or case to buy the games through steam, worked with me on games like Halflife which are old, steam have compatible versions :)
Try right clicking on it and select properties. Select compatibility and set it to 95/98. That should work in any version of windows.
there are websites where older games are free ,so i think they will be compatible

What cpu should I get for a Compaq Presario CQ40 129AU?

How bad of an investment is a gaming laptop compared to a gaming desktop?

-In other words, can an $800 desktop outperform a $2000 laptop or is a $2000 laptop = $2000 desktop? If the previous is true, why don't I just by a cheap notebook and settle for a gaming desktop right?

Anyway, how BAD IS IT REALLY?Laptops cannot have a true dedicated graphics card. They are mobile cards which is the biggest problem with gaming on a laptop.

Yes a 800$ desktop can outperform a $2000 laptop soley because of the video card.

In fact you would be well off with a cheap internet surfing laptop and a gaming desktop.

Ram, CPU and Video card are what defines a gaming desktop. Seeing as you cannot get a true quad core laptop for under3k nor could you have a non mobility card in said laptop then any desktop would be better. Dual core with a GTX570, 580 HD 6970 etc. would all outperform any laptop.

It's pretty bad. In fact, I would consider the term "Gaming Laptop" to be an oxymoron.
Gaming laptops cost more than gaming desktops and desktops can easily be upgraded wheras laptops can't. Buy a 450 dollar laptop and an 800 dollar desktop. I upgraded my desktop game pc after 3 years for 320 dollars with a new mobo, ram, and a quadcore cpu. I did the work myself. Check prices at Newegg.com.
I would recommend you a desktop computer.Laptop is a delicate device and gaming on that is not adviced although if u travel and want to play games and keep all ur stuff with you go for a laptop. It all depends on ur needs.

Hey everyone 鈥?we鈥檝e heard numerous reports of IE8 users having problems with sticking keys, especially on Adult Swim games, though occasionally elsewhere.

Simply, the blacklisted browsers are:

Google Chrome

IE8

use other browsers. it should help

you can also try deleting cookieshow long has it been since a "cold boot"? Shut the computer down from the start menu, not just reboot. If that doesn't correct it then uninstall Flash and redownload it.
The flash game which you are playing may not have defined arrow keys so it doesn't work.

What to do when laptop is fully discharged while playing?

-im playing nba 2k11 when my laptop runs out of charge. i put the charger but the screen is still black. i don't know how to reopen it after the total discharging.. what shall i do? thanks in advance!remove the charger and battery from the laptop, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, release, and replug the charger in. then try to turn it on. if it doesnt work then you probably have a dead charger. the charger is supposed to provide direct power to the laptop and if it doesnt then the laptop will not be able to turn on. i would suggest you look into a new charger as soon as possible. if you end up looking online i would personally suggest you visit topmicrousa. they are very reliable and have yet to disappoint.

Is on the fence HP or ASUS gaming laptop?

-Can't decide. HP Envy 17 3d or ASUS G73JW-A1 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop? Thoughts. Leaning twards the Asus as it looks and see better reviews off the Asus Where the Envy has cooling problems, etc on hte reviews which is scaring me a little. Thoughts? DO NOT GET THE HP. It is a business graphics laptop. That computer CANNOT play and recent games on high graphics. You are much better off with the ASUS

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/series鈥?/a>

If you read the specs, it says its primary use is business not gamingIf you're looking to game, just make sure that you get a laptop with a graphics card installed in it. Nvidia or ATI. If it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card then it's not a gaming laptop.
ASUS is better. HP is more for business/family related stuff. Try this laptop recommender: http://www.laptoprec.com/

Why does my Toshiba laptop battery run out so quick?

-My toshibas battery runs out pretty fricken fast! it's annoying because its about to die right now!it is old

or you leave it in your computer all the timeIf you have had it for a while this may be less likely to fix it. But, if it's under a year old this will probably work. Turn it on unplug and wait for it to die. Then charge it and while it is use it. Do that. That's how you should use a laptop. Use it on charge when its almost dead and when it's full use the battery.
how old is it?

batteries just get bad over time.

SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power SupplyIt is great that you have choice to build your own computer. It seems like the built is great and you don't need to change anything. However you need to add somethings. get a good HEATSINK as that will cool off your cpu and allow it to last longer, also you can really get that cpu to 4ghz if u overclock. Also get external TB drive, i will explain why. It keeps your computer running faster if u have an external drive and only use the main drive for the operating system. Also if u ever so happen to come across a problem where u are force to re install the operating system. Everything is saved on the external drive and all u have to do is reformat the internal drive. Your build is great. im pretty sure u can build one for less than $1200.It's great, if you use the computer a lot you should consider getting a larger hard drive, but that's about it. Looks like you've done your research!
There is always something better but I believe you have picked a very balanced as well as fast system. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a> be a better choice imho. The EVGA also has a lifetime warranty. You register the card online which usually entails filling out a short form, entering in your serial # which can usually be found on your GFX card's box or on the back of your card and uploading a copy of your receipt/invoice. Another possible issue that I see with your card is the fact that it is not a closed design. This means that VERY hot air that it will be exhausting will be exhausted right into your case. notice the edges of the fins. Do you see the fins on the evga or anything which suggests an open design? Nope. EE. External exhaust. Your RAM heatsink as well as your CPU cooler ( may I suggest http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a> since the Intel stock heatsink is not at all good. ) have enough to worry about then to have to deal with another piece of hardware. Did I mention the EVGA while getting a HIGHER satisfaction percentage at Newegg, a higher sales rate and is STILL less expensive. Other than that I think you are at a very good place. You might want to stick with the Asus memory QVL located here http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_S鈥?/a> . While the DOMINATOR a kick** RAM the G.Skill isn't a slouch by any means. The timings are the same as is the amount and the speed. The only difference is that ASUS tested the G.Skill RAM and approved it. I chose G.Skill over many other brands on my QVL because of many other user reviews as well as the fact that I want to reduce the possibility of errors as low as possible. So far my choices have resulted in stable Prime 95 testing as well as no issues whatsoever with crashing or BSODs.

Will this graphics card work with this board?

-Intel desktop board d865gbf with a nvidia geforce 6600gt 512gb agp. With this combination work? The board has an AGP slot, and that's an AGP card. So the answer is pretty obvious...

But all your games would lag on that slow, ancient 6600 GT card. You really should consider this one for MUCH better performance: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>It should. The card is a little old. Hope your getting an good deal on it!!

Quick laptop battery question?

-I just recently purchased a new laptop and the man in the store told me in order to make my battery last and to keep my laptop preforming better in the long run that I should remove the battery and just use it via the main power cable.

Is this true ? What are the pros and cons to doing this ? My sister does it with her netbook and she told me that it works really well.Pros:

Your computer produces less heat and therefore does less wear and tear to the insides of the computer which will coincidently give your computer a longer lifespan.

Cons:

Your laptop is not portableYes he's right. Keeping the battery in when the laptop is on will overcharge it and it can reduce the overall battery life after a while. It's not really noticeable though. I always have the battery in my laptop with the power chord in and I haven't noticed much of a difference (maybe around 5 minutes less battery life after 4 years of heavy use).

It will still work with the battery out and the power chord plugged in. Just make sure the chord doesn't fall out.
Best way to use battery just Keep out power cord when its full and when its draining just switch the power on definitely it will save your battery life.
if you aren't using the battery it's best to remove it.
i dont notice much of a difference when i take out my battery, it still gets hot, so imo keep the battery in.

Laptop Overheating during Gaming?

-Hello,

I'm having some problems with my laptop overheating and shutting down after 15-40 minutes of gaming on any game..

Bare with me, I'm not computer savvy

Before I begin, my specs..

Toshiba

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7450 @ 2.13GHz 2.13GHz (says 'Mobile' in advanced settings?)

RAM 4GB

Vista Home Premium 64-bit

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

My laptop has never had any problems with playing games at high settings at all, and had never over heated before, it only happened once when playing Mine craft, which I found weird since it's a small game with meager graphics. Yet it made my laptop over heat and crash, and since then my laptop can't handle any game for any length of time without getting incredibly hot and shutting down. I had been playing high end games for hours long before I had played Mine craft, apparently Mine craft stresses out Dual Cores but I'm not sure.. Anyway;

What I've tried..

- I've used laptop coolers that go under the laptop, but they aren't powerful enough to cool it down.

- I attempted to clean the fan, but there is no independent casing for the fan, I'd have to remove the whole backing which I wasn't willing to do. (I'm not knowledgeable enough to risk damaging it.)

- I've had my HUGE industrial fan that can blow tornado-like strength winds into the vent, which seems to make it last a while, but gives me a cold lol.

So I used CPUID to test the temperatures of my CPU and graphics card to see what temps they were reaching. In this test I was playing Total War Shogun 2 for about 15 minutes.

Results:

Resting CPU Temperature: 53C 53C (2 CPUs)

After 15 minutes of gaming: 79C 79C (2 CPUs)

Resting Graphics Card Temp: 53C

After 15 minutes of gaming: 96C

Resting RAM Temp: 35C

After 15 minutes of gaming: 41C

They all cooled down to resting temp after about 5-10 minutes once the game was stopped.

It seems the Graphics card is getting the biggest beating, and the CPU looks to be hotter than it should during game play, but my question is what is causing this? How do I fix this? And is this really bad?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post, I know people need lots of info when it comes to computer help, so here it is :) ThanksI think before starting the game you should place cooler down to the laptop it will prevent your laptop from over heating. The basic reason behind heating your gpu working continuously when you are playing game and same thing apply with your processor which is blowing out hot air from the laptop.
Try blowing out the laptop's vent with a can of compressed air or take it to a repair shop to be properly cleaned.

Getting a cooling pad - http://www.google.com/search?q=laptop+co鈥?/a> - may also help.
Due to their small size and lack of ventilation, laptops tend to overheat more than desktop computers. A noisy cooling fan that runs continuously is one sign that your laptop is overheating. Laptop overheating can also cause a loss of performance, system crashes, and even permanent damage to components. The goal is to make sure your laptop has proper ventilation and is kept as cool as possible.

Things You'll Need

Aerosol air duster

Vacuum cleaner with crevice tool

Laptop cooler pad

Laptop owner's manual

1

Always use your laptop on a tray, desktop, or other cool surface. If you use it on your lap, make sure clothes, upholstery or bedding are not blocking the case vents. Blocked vents are the number one cause of laptop overheating.

2

Use an aerosol air duster, or can of compressed air, to blow dust from the air intake vents. Air intake vents are a set of slots on the side or bottom of the case that allow cool air to flow into the laptop.

3

Clean the cooling fan exhaust system. The cooling or CPU fan is located on the side or back of the case. A clogged CPU fan vent keeps hot air trapped inside the case. Use an aerosol air duster to loosen the debris, then use a vacuum cleaner with crevice tool to vacuum out the dust and dirt.

4

Use a commercial laptop cooler. A laptop cooler pad is an external USB powered fan that serves as a base for your laptop. If your laptop generates a lot of heat, even with a clean cooling system, a laptop cooler will extend the life of your laptop.

5

Adjust your BIOS settings. Most laptops have features built into the system BIOS that allow fan speed, CPU temperature alarms, and other settings to be adjusted. Read your owner's manual to learn how to enter the BIOS and change the settings for your particular laptop model.

Any thoughts on HP 4200n laser printer?

-I am looking to get a cheap, reliable laser printer for my home office. I found an HP 4200n laser printer for $50. Is this a good deal? It still has a bit of toner left in the cartridge and I plan on using toner (w/ chip) refill kits. Any experience with this particular printer?

I am in the market for a new computer but am completely lost!!?

-I have an Ebay Business, a Facebook business, I play large file games, Lots & Lots of pics, MSOffice, PrintShop, Lots & lots of Graphics, etc. What to do??? Which desktop computer would suit me? HELP!You need a dual core or quad core at 3.0GHZ or more and 4 gigs of ram. A video card would help a lot too, they are easy to install yourself. Newegg.com has good prices on pcs and parts. A gaming pc would be great for you as the video card is already installed. Newegg has them and so does Cyberpower,Inc. and iBUYPOWER. Nowdays you get a lot more pc power for less money.

Will my PC run when I get it, Computer EXPERTS help.?

-I need to know a few things... what does it mean by configurator? And what about an operating system? Will this work when I get it. I was thinking it would be better to go out and buy one rather than order it, but I really like the specs on this one, water cooling, 8gb of ram, but I don't know all that much about it. IT says configurator... and I don't know what that means. So any of you computer gurus look at this link, tell me what I will get, what I will need and what you recomend I do, go out and buy one, or buy this.

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/CyberPower_Z68_Configurator/configurator is a catchy name they gave it.

it looks like a great system to me, especially with the i5-2500k processor. you can overclock that one any way you like.

i dodn't see an operating system listed, so you will need to purchase windows separately. you can get an OEM version at newegg.com. be sure to get the 64bit one.

the z-68 motherboard offers the best of both worlds offering great number crunching capability, as well as supporting higher graphics.

buy it. :)

CHIPSET H61

4Gb ram/750Gb HD

DVD + /-RW LS

hd 5770

i want to upgrade to 6gb ram , what do i need to know before i do so (i read about things like frequency , DDR 2or3 ..) pls explainFirst you need to know about the supported RAM modules and frequency of your motherboard. For the intel H61 , as far as the intel documentation says , it only supports DDR3 ram module running at a FREQUENCY of 1333 Mhz . So you can only use this SPECIFIC type of ram. Also if you have two channels , you can use two modules of 3 gb ram ( i don't know if they exist ) , or if it has 3 modules then you can get another 2 GB ram and insert it in the remaining slot.there is a tad bit more to the other guys answer but i can not remember what it is.

you can find out whats supported by going to the Company web page and tell them what pc/laptop it is and so on.
u should go to corsair 1333mhz its the best and fastest ram and good for gaming.....good luck

Whats better? i5 o i3?

-I know this is a stupid question but...

I want to play GTA IV...

Everything else on the computers are the same but...

one has an i3 that runs at 2.4GHz

and the i5 runs at - 2.1GHZ

But i was thinking, is the i3 better because it has faster speed. but what is better for playing GTA IV?? Thankss!Core i3:

* Entry level processor.

* 2-4 Cores

* 4 Threads

* Hyper-Threading (efficient use of processor resources)

* 3-4 MB Catche

* 32 nm Silicon (less heat and energy)

Core i5:

* Mid range processor.

* 2-4 Cores

* 4 Threads

* Turbo Mode (turn off core if not used)

* Hyper-Threading (efficient use of processor resources)

* 3-8 MB Catche

* 32-45 nm Silicon (less heat and energy)
just another idiot who thinks that cpu's speed says it all
Of course I5 is the best...

Should I get a PC or a Mac?

-Please no long answers, just a short one that gets to the point. Which one should I get?Depends what you want.

PC-Better for games, less expensive.

Macs-Faster then PCs, better for work, more space.

I recommend Mac as they are more of an all-around computer then PCs are. What's all this talk about open source not working on OS X or whatever. So far pretty much everything I've seen with a Windows port has an OS X port too. If the program was developed specifically for Windows then the fact that it's open source doesn't make it different from closed source Windows native programs that don't get ported to OS X. >.>

The main things to consider are

Price - PC will be cheaper

Software - OS X can't run most .exe files so if you find yourself is a situation where you *have* to use some obscure Windows program for work or educational purposes then a Mac might be an inconvenience. This is also an issue if you want to play games.

Security - OS X is safer, but make sure you actually read up on Mac security, don't just assume it is invulnerable because it isn't.

Shiny - Macs are shiny!!1
If you use PC's now and they do what you need them to do then stick with it. Just bought a used Mac G5. I can not even begin to tell you how lost I am with it. I bought it just to see what Macs are all about. I will figure it out but it will take time. If I needed to use this computer and hit the ground running I would be screwed. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
If you game at all then you'll need a PC.

You'll also need a PC and not a Mac if you are opposed to being ripped off in a big way.

Only get a Mac if you are swayed by the fact that they are *considered* trendy and aesthetically pleasing.
Which have you had better luck with? If PCs have been failing on you the last few years, then get a Mac if you want a new computer experience. If they've been reliable, then stick with PCs. It's whatever works for you best.
PC.聽 Better value for money, and more easily upgradeable.聽 Also, better variety of software available, especially open source freeware.

I recommend mac for it's simple UI and depth of apple programs.

Windows is cheaper and a lot easier to download opensource programs.

What is the best flight simulator for a laptop?

-Also, I have a Packard Bell. Will the flight simulator be jumpy . Will it run smoothly? ThanksMost new laptops would have enough memory to run a flight simulator. I've been using a grt simulator from http://flightsimulatorplus.com - maybe you should check it out. I have only about 2 GB memory, but it still runs pretty well.Packard Bell have been making laptops for years, without knowing the specifications of it there's no way to know what it's capable of running.

How i can free disk space?

-You can delete the Service Pack uninstall files by navigating to C:\Windows\$NTServicePackUninstall. Once you do this, if you try to use the 'Remove' for Service Pack 2 in Add/Remove Programs, it will fail and will offer to delete the entry.Just delete unused programs in your x86 folder
delete unused programs . :)

which one should I connect my external hard drive to in order for a faster transfer rate?well it really depends on what kind of transfers youll be doing and what kind of cords you have around. But ill do my best to help the desicion process. The eSata port runs Sata II which has maximum bandwith of 3.0Gbs/s. USB 2.0 runs at a maximum 480mbits/s. USB 3.0 runs at 5.0Gbs/s about 10x faster. However, combo eSata/USB port will only run at USB 2.0 speeds. The USB 3.0 header is "bottle necked" through the internal USB port which is only at USB 2.0 speeds. Your probly thinking why have 2 Usb connectors and why make 1 merge with the eSata. And thats because the eSata/Usb combo port will power ur USB devices i.e. ipod, ipad and in some cases (not sure about ur external HDD) external hard drives will be able to power themselves via USB cable using this combo port which eliminates the need for an ac adapter. For the fastest connection I would use the eSata port with a Sata II compatible host. Note that eSata connections will always need a external power source for the external device.A USB 3,0 port is faster than a USB 2.0 port. However since the external drive is only USB 2.0, it is unable to run at the 3.0 speed. If you plug it into the 3.0 port, the port will slow itself down to 2.0 speed. So it will run the same on either port. In theory, it should make no difference.

In actual usage, however, it is possible that the drive might be designed to make use of some on the 3,.0 features and could run a bit faster. Or the "downgrading" of the 3.0 to 2.0 may actually make it run slower. The only way to tell would be to test it out in both ports and see if you notice any difference.

But in theory, it should run at the same 2.0 speed on either port.
As far as I can see from the specs provided (the first 2 links are dead), it only has 1 USB2 port and a power socket!鈽?/div>

WHATS MY CPU TEMPERATURE?

-I have an AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE processor with stock heatsink. I was converting videos 8 to be exact today which took about 3 hours considering they were in 720p. This put the cpu 100% under load so I decided I would check my temps knowing I had not before. I used the AMD Overdrive software that was included with the cpu which is by far the most to detail software ive used, It reads that my CORE temps are sitting at 62 c and my CPU temp is sitting at 54 c. So my question is which do I go by? Im only concerned because ive read that after 62 c things go downhill.. Thanks in Advance and no I dont need an suggestions on different software like fanspeed thanks anyways.I own a 965 BE and wondered the same thing. I use an old version of PC Wizard that shows CPU Temp and Core Temps. When converting videos my CPU Temp is about 40C while the Core Temps get about 61C. Mine also states the Max Temp as 62C. So I googled it. My research appears to indicate that we should be concerned with the CPU Temp. This seems logical to me because I have my BIOS set to shut down at 60C and it does not when the Core Temp runs that high converting videos. Hope this helps. Good Luck.Of course for every computer, the core temperature is different. However because i have a similar processor, i consider anything over 60c is high and u should fix it. Stock heat sinks are terrible, they were made to have high temperature. Find a new heat sink and your tempature can be drop as high as -20c or even 30! See if you can at least get a hardware to control the CPU fan, it makes alot of difference. As for the case airflow, make sure you get the right airflow with enough airflow.
Hi..Get a direct reading with this. The probe will fit next to your cpu and give you a direct reading to 194 dgr f. Hunt around...some places sell them for around $10.00 inc shipping. Other alternative would be an infrared temperature thermometer.

http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/017/tm02wh_detail.html

Hank
Looks like the software breaks down the processor into two components. 1: The cores themselves, and 2: the processor as a whole. = CPU. The core temps will be higher than the CPU temp. I would watch the CPU temp.
Download--Speccy--for free and see for yourself. It has your temps on it.

How do i damage my laptop so i get a new one under warranty?

-it is hp and is under warranty,i just want to relace it coz when i ran system recovery ,it didnt work well after thatjust call em up and ask em whats wrong

2) it voids your warranty if you damage your laptop intentionally and they can tell if you damaged it intentionally because laptops are only vulnerable in some parts.Stop using ANTIVIRUS and go to sites which have VIRUS.

if you close the screen of the laptop very hard, it damages the screen and can be replaced.

the socket where you put the battery, has a tiny little vire or peice of iron in it. If this thing is slightly slanted by constant pulling, your computer won't charge without it's battery.

ALL THE BEST!!
Damaging your Lap top yourself, i dont think its an good idea. Actually by doing this you wont have much confidence while negotiating with concern officials for new Lap top. Because company knows which type of damage mostly can take place to replace the system. For your winning tomorrow.. http://twitter.com/winnernews
Over use it. I mean full gaming with heavy games,

multiple heavy tasks in same time, no antivirus, unsecure downloading from net, over charge the battery... and so on...
open the laptop and than close for more visit

External HDD problem!?

-HI all...I am having a problem with my seagate freeagent go 500gb external hard drive..it was working good till 2 years and now something happened....when i plug it in it slows the computer..it shows RAW drive..is says 'you need to format drive l before using it'...I have many information stored in it...i cant afford to format it....i Tried many recovery softwares...but after plugging softwares dont open and start hanging.. if i open the software before plugging...it does not show the drive...Please Help..I have WIN7..Had the same problem months back.I thought it was spoiled so i forced opened the cover of the drive out of curiosity, and inside i found two slots similar to the one that an internal drive has.i fitted it internally and it worked!!! {Curiousity does pay off:p}almost all my files were intact and the ones that weren't i recovered em..im not saying it'll produce the same result in your case but there's no harm in trying.

And it'll be helpful if you can add details on what type of files were stored in your drive.
hmm i was facing same problem with my maxtor 500 gighd external.Maxtor is the re branded Segate so i hope we are using same product. The same problem is being faced with me but with me only few folders run terribly bad.So i guess problems with the sectors. Also try using it for quick durations.Longer u use the slower it gets.So plug n unplug.

My Laptop vs Friend's Laptop?

-Me and my friend are comparing our laptop and we are arguing which one is better (but both of ours are sucky anyway) but i just want to know which is is better? my friends or mine (both sucks at games but i just want to know if mine is better)

My Specs:

Intel Hd Graphics

Intel Core i5 480m

2.67 ghz

2gb ram

450 hdd

14.1 inch

windows 7 32 bit

2mp webcam

My friends spec:

AMD VISION X2 M520-2.2GHz

4gb of ram

15 inch

1.3 mp camera

2.2 ghz

ATI RADEON HD4200-256MB

windows 7 64 bit (both of ours is home premium)

from what i can say is that i have a better processor and better camera. But thats it. but my friend has 4gb of ram and a 64 bit system. so which is better overall? gaming? and photo editing?Well you have a 64Bit system but with 2GB of ram it would be silly to put a 64Bit OS on it.

Being honest you are probably better off with a 32Bit OS with 4GB of ram and ignoring the bit you lose.

Your machine is better you can always add more ram.
You both have just a laptop with no high specs....

Among the 2...

Your friend's laptop have some high processing capability in display and processor is enough...

But your have a good processor but no good display hardwares.....
Just stop arguing, cameras make everything better. Yours is better
I would Prefers to go with first one it is better

Why is My Laptop so SLOW?

-When I press the MY Computer. It takes sometime 1 minute to open, and when I open a movie to play, it took sometime 3 minutes to open the Windows Media Player. Before I used to use Gom Player, but it takes now half an hour to open Gom and when playing with that it stops and continues, It's making me CRAZY. I have HP 625You probably have used alot of memory or you might have a bug in your computer sometimes that can be the affect there is going to be a link for you to download to get ride of bus the first 5 times or maybe less will have you rebot where it just restarts it. . Check your memory if its half way or all the way full then thats why if not then its a bug. .Impossible to say; you've likely got something like Limewire installed on the computer that's hogging all the system resources.

You might try first to download, install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, http://www.malwarebytes.org , and then download, install and run Glary Utilities, http://www.glaryutilities.com . (I'm assuming you already have an updated antivirus package now.)
Most likely Infections and System errors. Scan your system with Avast free & RegInOut cleaner to see for errors. They will fix it for you.
have you got heaps of memory on your computer? if so that's why its runny slow but if not maybe you should get it repaired

Q1. Do I need the same brand and MHz for my ram to work normally?

Q2. Are 2Gb of rams are enough for me to play modern games like Black Ops or Crysis 2?

Q3. Is Geforce 9500gt 1gb pci-e good for gaming? Or can you recommend better GPU? (My budget is only $100.)

Q4. I have a psu that has a name of Orion? Is it branded or not? Is it stable? pic is below

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6008/5980702581_aa614bc4dc_b.jpgA1: Ideally, yes. If you can get a matched set, you'll have much less likelihood of having memory issues. Check your motherboard's qualified vendors list (QVL) to find compatible memory. It should be on their website, on the page for your motherboard. I'd be happy to look it up if you can provide the manufacturer and model number.

A2: For some modern games, 2GB is probably sufficient, but your best bet is to get a matched 2 x 2GB set for a total of 4GB. That'll be enough for just about any current game on the market, if not all. 4GB is cheap these days.

A3: The GeForce 9500GT is very old. For $100, you could get a GT 440 that uses faster GDDR5 memory. Or, if you can stretch your budget just a little bit, you can get a GTS 450 for $109-129, or even a GTX 550 Ti for $115 (after rebate). I've included a link to the GTX 550 Ti in Source(s) below.

A4: I have no idea if the Orion power supply is good or not; however, at 500W, it's just barely going to be enough to power a video card like the GTX 550 Ti. I recommend getting a 650-750W unit from Corsair. Links in Source(s). Using an insufficient power supply is risky, as you can fry your entire system if it fails badly. Best case in that event, you need to replace the power supply anyway.

My computer keeps freezing?

-recently when i turn on my computer, it boots up fine then when its on after like 3 minutes it will just freeze

ive used : malwarebytes and ccleaner to delete things but after it still freezes

it doesnt freeze when i go in safe mode thoughDon't listen to the other answers, there is no one clear answer that anybody could give you because a PC freezing could be the result of many issues.... HOWEVER some of the most common reasons could be:

* You have hardly any hard drive space left on your computer - delete any un-used or unwanted programs or files from your computer and remove them from the recycle bin.

* You might be using a computer several years old and have very low RAM - look into that because adding RAM will speed up the PC

* Running Disk Defragmentor gets rid of old, unused and corrupted files on ur hard drive, run that before you go to bed at night because it could take several hours but usually its worth it.

* It could be the result of a virus/malware/spyware on your computer - run AVG anti-virus free edition to see if it picks up any unknown viruses or Trojans

* It could be a particular program that you have open (that is not necessarily corrupted) but is a program that eats up a lot of your processor power... these can range from any programs... go to your task manager, and select processes tab, then click on the actual tab so you can see what programs are eating up the processor

* Perhaps you need to do some windows updates

* Lastly you may need to update your versions of Flash or Java
You have a program that is bad installed and when the program starts it makes your computer freeze. Restore your computer to some days before it started having problems.

You can do this by going to the windows bar searching restore point, and then execute restore the computer to a previous point.
Go to safe mode and then C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings and remove folder temp.

Re-boot PC. It should fix your problem.
its because of the software, re-boot it.

Intel vs AMD - a classic Q, which is better?

-Hello technophiles. This is a typical situation...

Getting a new system, using it for internet surfing and occasional CD / DVD burning with win7.

My question is; Is the Intel i3 a real (true) quad-core processor ?

Also is the Phenom X2 a real quad-core processor (using a AM3 motherboard) ?

Is this stuff just a bunch of techno-babble as in:

"so and so will make it a virtual quad-core even though It's really a dual-core...." and so on.

For my purposes, I could (probably) just get by with a Pentium/Athlon X2;

However using win7 and my experiences in the past with Microsoft OSes has tought me that - it's usually better to get a next-gen processor to begin with.

Looking for thoughts, comments and I do give credit to answerers that give links to prove their points. The Core i3 is a dual core processor, it doesn't have other hidden cores that can be unlocked. A Phenom X2 is a quad core processor with two cores disabled - these cores are disabled either to increase the number of X2 processors for sale, or because they are defective. If you're building a new machine then it's well worth considering the Sandy Bridge processors because they're quite a bit more powerful than the Phenom II series.Well the i3 had two physical and two virtual cores i think, so it's really not a true quad core processor but then it can outperform a true quad core like the AMD's quads.

Since Intel has always had the upper hand in terms or raw power over AMD it's pretty much expected for them to always outperform AMD.

Architecture is pretty much everything with CPU's, better architecture equals better performance.

For what you want to do, and AMD would work just fine, don't bother getting Intel if that's all you're going to be doing. If you're getting the AMD Black Edition II X2 3.2Ghz that is verry good for what you're doing.

If you can afford the Intel i3, or better, then get it i say. It's always better to be up to date or very close to what newer processors can do.

EXTERNAL HARD-DRIVE IS SCREWED! ADVICE PLEEEASE?

-I have a WD Elements 400gb external harddrive. Its full to about 250gb with games and movies. It will not open on either my PC or Mac anymore. I think the best action would be to do a restore on it as i have tried everything else.

5 STARS FOR BEST ANSWER"i have tried everything else" An often heard phrase. I will pay a dollar for every time those words are spoken truly, if I can get a nickle for every time they are proved incorrect.

Talk only about OS X for now....

Launch Disk Utility. See the ext. HDD? Select the icon that represents the file volume ("partition"), not the physical drive. Look at the info along the bottom of that DU window. What is the format?

If the format is NTFS...

-- Download and install either NTFS-3G or SL-NTFS.

-- Restart.

-- Launch Disk Utility.

-- Select the ext. HDD.

-- Select the "First Aid" tab.

-- Click the "Repair Disk" button.

-- When it is done, click the "Repair Disk" button again.

Laptop keeps shutting down after 5mins?

-my laptop keeps shutting down after 5mns or so. Where the charger is plugged in, on the underside of the laptop its very hot, only where the charger is plugged in. Any help would be most grateful.

Is the laptop a write off?if the laptop is on a fabric-like surface, or the fans are being blocked or dirty, then it is very likely the laptop is over heating. if the fans are clean, and the laptop isnt overheating, then more then likely the situation is related to a bad charger that is releasing too much energy which will cause the laptop to heat up and shut down because of the heat. it can also shut down because the laptop or charger short circuited.

i would suggest you look into getting the laptop fans cleaned out and try not to overheat it first. if theyre clean and the laptop is still shuttingg down, you should look into getting a new charger as soon as possible.

if you have any more questions feel free to send me an email and ill be happy to help \(^_^)/
There cud b many reasons.

*first, the underside is mostly hot when u either use ur laptop all day and night or if ur laptop's on ur bed or any fabric

*Second, Virus.
Most likely Infections and System errors. Scan your system with Avast free & RegInOut cleaner to see for errors. They will fix it for you.
Virus, or you should not use it for a full 24 hour day, tomorrow see how it works

What does a laptop need for it to be a good laptop for gaming?

-I would like to buy a laptop thats good for games (like world of warcraft, rift, sims etc), what does a laptop need to be able to have games on it that wont lag or crash often? Why does money act good for living! Why does relationship needs to be good for socializing! Why is fun important for joy in life because it's necessarily usual!

However nice laptops have nice ram so faster, nice sound so louder, nice picture quality so clearer, nice hard drive so more memory space and blah blah you got your answer!

and probably a nice laptop
More RAM, better screen resolution, better sound, more hard drive space, better processor, better graphics card. A new $600 upgrade for the graphics card about every two months.

Pc gaming will empty your wallet within half a year. (that is if you plan on playing new games as they come out)
If you want a good laptop for gaming then it should have good screen resolution , memory space, sound, 3d card, good hardware that supports games. Usually when you buy games , all softwares and amount of free space neede is given.
Buy a laptop with

4GB ram

512MB or better graphics

500GB harddisk

an i3 processor.
It needs a good processor (i3 i5 or i7) lots of DDr2 or RAM space some hard drive space and a good video card. 100-300 dollar ones. Just get a desktop its cheaper by like 2 times

I want to recover sound on the computer?

-I do not have the sound icon and am without sound. How can I recover the sound? If you're running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click Control Panel, click System and Security, and then, under System, click Device Manager. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

If you're running Windows XP, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click System, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Double-click Sound, video and game controllers to expand that category. If a sound card is listed, you have one installed. If no sound card is listed, check the information that came with your computer to see if there's supposed to be a sound card installed. If there should be a sound card installed, you'll need to install one. For more information, see Install or remove a sound card.

if you think you have a sound card installed, but you don't see it under the Sound, video and game controllers category, expand the Other devices category and check any devices listed there.

Laptops don't usually have sound cards. Instead, they have integrated sound processors, which appear in the same category in Device Manager.

If there's a yellow question mark next to the name of the sound card in Device Manager, there might be a problem.

Right-click the name of the sound card, and then click Properties.

Click the General tab, and then look in the Device status box to identify problems with the sound card.

If there's a problem, you might need a new driver for your sound card.

My computer broke. Can you try to make a diagnosis?

-When I turn it on it is active for five minutes max or it won't even start. Before I take it to real cpu doctor, I would like to hear some of your smarta*se's answers. You can throw it out the window.Well I hardly ever see any people on here that are not nice people. Of course there is always a rotten apple in the barrel somewhere. When you ask a question like you just asked don't expect to get any answers. It makes me feel like I don't care if you ever get your computer fixed or not.

I may get a violation for this answer. I really don't care because your question hurts my feelings.
I must assume that you're a total idiot. You insult people here by calling them smarta*ses and then expect responses. That's very clever ... I don't think.
That's an easy fix. All you have to do it take out the....oh wait im a smartass.....good luck

My Hard Drive has a single partition?

-If that's not a contradiction, I thought I'd resize it and install Linux but the drive has a lock on it and wont let me partition. Any way round this? You can't partition a drive that's mounted and you can't umount a drive that's in use.

Boot from your Linux live CD and install that way but make sure your data is safe of course. You can use ACRONIS DISK DIRECTOR (there are others) to resize a partition

With ACRONIS you can do it either of 2 ways

Run the program under WIN(whatever)

Set the new C: partition to the size you want

This will leave an empty space for the linux partition

You can create a new partition in this space at the same time if you want

Since you cant resize the C: partition immediately(cos its in use) when you tell the program to execute it will reboot the pc and proceed to execute the commands BEFORE the pc loads WIN(?) (cos the drive is not locked now)

When its complete it will reboot a second time but now back into WIN(?) but with the partition now resized.

The second way is to create a bootable cd in the first place (I recommend you do this anyway)

(Cant remember whether the supplied cd is bootable or not. however if you run the program one of the options is to create a bootable cd that will boot straight into the program

You can then proceed exactly as before except the pc will not need to reboot cos C: is not locked

As someone else has said its VERY important that you create a disk image BEFORE you resize

(I use ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE but there are others) . Its VERY important that its an image, DONT just copy cos it wont work if you have to reload the drive)

NB

(If you have both programs you can create one bootable cd containing both programs and select which one you want on bootup)
There are many tools that should be able to help you. Download and burn a Live CD image of your favorite linux distribution and boot to it. Get the command line/shell up and (as root) run fdisk against the target drive (e.g fdisk /dev/xxxn ). You should then be able to create and delete any partitions.
Try partition assistant, this program may be can help you partition your hard drive, for more detailed instruction, please go on read the article:

Install and run easus partition master, it's free and works amazingly.

(experts!)can rubber gloves be able to prevent the electrostatic charges?like anti- static wrist strap?

-Hello experts! I wanna know can

rubber gloves be able to prevent

the electrostatic charges?like

anti-static wrist strap? It is

secure? Can you assure that?

Please let me know! Thanks a

lot!!...Yes and no...The very thin surgical gloves can stop a minor discharge but if you grab a board with the sharp tails if components have been cut off they will easily puncture the glove so a discharge can occur. using thicker gloves will prevent the discharge but you lose the "feel" when working on delicate parts. I know you often see "techs" wearing the gloves but that's more for protecting the component contacts from the acidic oils on your fingers, not for static discharge!Yes they are if talking about something similar to medical rubber gloves ,something i should be wearing but i don't when working on pc's , just touch the metal of the case to discharged the static electricity and always touching metal when working inside the case, so your answer is yes, especially installing the motherboard and the ram.
Nope. For a normal electrical voltage, just sure they aint wet

I need a breakdown on how to pick and purchase memory for a mac?

-Exactly what the title says. I'm a little out of my depths concerning anything technical....

Model Name: MacBook

Model Identifier: MacBook5,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache: 3 MB

Memory: 2 GB

Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Boot ROM Version: MB51.007D.B03

I want to have enough memory to play a game on my computer and to maybe support having Windows.

I found this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1651

But that really doesn't help me pick a nice affordable, yet reliable, memory card... thing. I checked out Crucial, but they didn't seem to have MB51.007D.B03 as an option.

Can anyone help me with this? Also, maybe suggest other things that should be +1?

Do the new SATA hard drives have slave and master settings?

-No. The boot order for SATA drives is set from the BIOS.

SATA drives do have some jumper settings but these rarely need to be changed from the default

SSC - Spread Spectrum Clocking is a way to lower electromagnetic interference (EMI) or electronic noise. Mainly used to pass FCC emssions standards in multi-drive computers.

PUIS - Power-up in standby - prevents the drive from automatic spinup when power is applied, drive gets to full speed only when used. It's a power conservancy measure. Your motherboard has to support this else the drive might not start properly at all.

1.5Gb PHY - forces a drive into 1.5Gbps transfer mode rather than 3.0Gbps mode. The PHY stands for physical layer, a reference to layer 1 of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model.No. The boot order for SATA drives is set from the BIOS.

Laptop Won't Boot up?

-I Have a Dell Studio 17, about 2 years old. It came with Windows Vista and a free upgrade to Windows 7, which I upgraded to.

Now recently, I tried to play a song on iTunes, so iTunes froze and I closed it (it wasn't responding), then I tried opening it again and it froze again. So, I turned of my computer, thinking to restart and fix it.

But now, when I try to turn it on it asks if I want to start normally or go into some sort of repair mode. I tried starting normally, and it takes me to the loading Microsoft screen, only the microsoft flag is missing and it gets frozen. (if i leave it long enough it takes me to he repair thing anyways)

When I try going to the repair stage, it takes me to my welcome screen (only without saying anything) and I just have my cursor. I left it on for a hew hours, and it started scanning my system and trying to fix things, but then I left it like that overnight and when I woke up it was back on a plain welcome screen, stuck again.

I tried calling support and they decided (in about 30 seconds) that it was a virus and if I even wanted furhter support it would be 139 dollars per call or like 250 dollars for permanent, with no gaurantee the problem would be fixed.

I just want to know if there's any way I can fix this without spending a fortune. It should be noted that i CANNOT in any way get onto my computer to do anything past like press f12 for boot menu and such.

Thanks

How pc monitor can be use as tv?

-You need a TV tunerHi,

Follow this guide,

http://www.instructables.com/id/Use-an-LCD-Monitor-as-a-TV-without-a-Computer/

You need several things to make it a TV without computer. I'm not sure if it only works with LCD monitors.
A PC monitor alone cannot be used as a tv. But if you have the monitor connected to a computer you can buy a TV Tuner card and view tv channels on your monitor.

All for 拢830.82 so is it any good?this is an awesome CPU. you will not have to upgrade anything for about 4 years, except for graphics card. i don't mean that the graphics card is not good. but i am saying that now a day the graphics are getting high in extreme speed. i hope you understand. anyways, i think there is some problem with the price. because 拢830 is a little more. you can get the same performance in less amount.

or you can get more performance in the same amount ...

SO WHY DON'T YOU ??? try http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ and configure the same in same kind of casing. and check the price ....

thanks
Specs wise it is VERY good, although a higher graphics card would be good to play hardcore games like COD (call of duty).

Really good machine for that price... If only macs were cheaper ....
the requirement what you have given is quite good for gaming.

but if you are buying for gaming go to www.ibuypower.com

and see it.
A great build, recommend a creative x-fi sound card for better sounds, the graphic card is good for

gaming at high settings
quite good but some games might require a higher graphics card.

Where can i download .avi drivers for xp?

-i have got xp back on my pc but it has lost some drivers.

when i click on an .avi file it opens windows media players and comes up with the message XVID MPEG-4 (XVID) and i found out that windows web page is use-less for xp now, so i am asking you if you know what the problem is (i am guessing the drivers) and how i can fix it.the .avi is a file format and what you need is a codec to be able to use it.

Try VLC Player as the media player of choice, it comes with a wide variety of codecs already included and will play most things without issues and will download new codecs when it requires them http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
VLC media player

Try this.... easy to install... works straight off.

Dell D630 with XP pro
You have missing codecs. Download the K-Lite codec pack from here: http://codecguide.com/download_k-lite_co鈥?/a>
For the specific Xvid codec, go here:

Just go to windows update and get the latest version of Media player for XP. That should install everything you need to play avi files.

VGA or HDMI for my 1080p monitor?

-Hi I was wondering what cable I should use for my monitor which is 1080p full hd VGA or HDMI I will be watching blu ray movies and playing games like battlefield 3 when it comes out

So what cable to use VGA or HDMI and is there a difference in the picture quality and btw my graphics card is nvidia gtx 580VGA isn't a protected video path, so you will not be able to watch protected media, such as Blu Ray, unless the Blu Ray player is in the computer.

As far as PC goes, I prefer VGA, but cannot really tell you pros/cons as I can't tell a difference.

And seeing as how a computer can produce resolutions higher than *x1080, VGA is easily capable of HD video.
vga won't give you hd quality unless you're using a dvi/dvi-d to vga adapter

and depending on your monitor ratio the HDMI cable can letterbox your resolution losing an inch or so off the border. You can overscan it with the monitor or gpu settings but it may cause some issues with certain applications.
HDMI or DVI are the only way you will get 1080p
If it has a DVI socket then use that instead.

My computer is not strarting and only on/off more time.?

-computer model no: p6021me (HP).your computer has corrupted drivers and you should see a blue screen before the comp reboots. sadly, you need to reset the comp to factory default settings.

As soon as your computer is turning on press the F10 key and it will take you to the system recovery screen, click on the advanced option and click Destructive recovery and click next.

this will delete everything that did not come pre-loaded from the factory,
It is broken. you need to get it fixed.

My mouse won't work. Please help...?

-After i uninstall kaspersky the problem is coming. I check my mouse in another computer it will be fine.run System File Checker (sfc.exe), this will scan all protected Windows files to verify their versions have not been overwritten or damaged, and if so will replace the compromised version with a fresh copy. To run it, click Start/Run and type 'sfc.exe /scannow' (without the quotes but with the space between the 'e' and the '/'). Alternatively, you can click start/Run and type in CMD and click O.K., when the black window opens type in "sfc /scannow". You will need to insert your Windows CD into the drive to enable sfc to effect the repair. Sfc.exe will just stop without any other sign than the statusbar is gone!

If you are just wanting to download images from the camera to the computer, most of the regulars here prefer to use a USB memory card reader.

Here is the work flow I follow after taking photos:

1)Download the memory card content to your computer using a USB card reader

2)Verify the transfer was a success

3)Back up the files on your computer to another hard drive (or CDs)

4)Format the memory card with your camera (and not with the computer)

Do this at the end of every day that you take photos/videos

Beats tour controltalk on laptop?

-i tried using dres beats tour control talk as a mic for my laptop and it dosent seem to work , it works fine on iphone. so i was wondering if i have to download a software to make it work, thanks"You probably won't find that much information about this topic, well not useful information anyways. As far as i know, the tour doesn't work on a lot of android phones. The ones we have tested on are, Desire and wildfire. The reseller where we got the headphones from claims that the tour works with Nexus one, however i have not tested it. It would be interesting to know if other brands work...

P.s my beats studio works on all android phones with 3.5mm plug... and i have no idea why as physically, the plug is exactly the same."

"Hmm the list is not very up to date....

UPDATE: there is hope

click on 4th tab universal controltalk, more comp. devices....!!"

This was all the information my search could conclude. I do not think that technology is universally adaptable...please check with your manufacturer.

How Can I Free Up Disk Space?

-I've had this desktop for years, and just today I realized that out of the 177GB I only had a few MB left. I did a Disc Cleanup and that freed up 13gb, but that's still not enough. Should I compress old files? Or defragment the disk? Or is there a program I should download? Please Help!there is not any such software as your requirement nor disk defragment and other task meet our target.compressing may some help you but as you have quoted it will also not helpful for you.

the best is to backup the data in portable disk drive and free up your hdd of desktop.
Back everything important on to an external hard drive and factory restore, you will be amazed at the amount of free space you will have.

Whats MSI Readon HD R6850-PM2D1GD5/OC performance like?

-im buying this GPU next week and its a very big upgrade for me ive still got Nvidia 7900gs from 6 years ago still in my pc so im exited :PHope you got the PCI-E version of the 7900 GS or the 6850 will not fit your motherboard.

Assuming that your CPU can keep up with the card and you have enough RAM, then you're in for a real treat with the 6850. It's a million miles better than your old card.

Here's a look at how you can expect it to perform. Remember that the video is not even HD and that Crysis remains one of the most demanding games.

It's just fine. Could be better, but it's much faster than the graphics cards in 90% of computers out there today.
