EXTERNAL HARD-DRIVE IS SCREWED! ADVICE PLEEEASE?

-I have a WD Elements 400gb external harddrive. Its full to about 250gb with games and movies. It will not open on either my PC or Mac anymore. I think the best action would be to do a restore on it as i have tried everything else.

Talk only about OS X for now....

Launch Disk Utility. See the ext. HDD? Select the icon that represents the file volume ("partition"), not the physical drive. Look at the info along the bottom of that DU window. What is the format?



If the format is NTFS...

-- Download and install either NTFS-3G or SL-NTFS.

-- Restart.

-- Launch Disk Utility.

-- Select the ext. HDD.

-- Select the "First Aid" tab.

-- Click the "Repair Disk" button.

-- When it is done, click the "Repair Disk" button again.
