Compatability of certain games with windows xp?

-So having had my first question answered i now have another one. Will games designed for windows 95/98 be compatible with windows xp? They say on the back system requirements compatible with windows 95/98. They definately dont work with vista. These games include the simon the sorcerer series, by aventure soft, various lucas arts games (although i have never had a problem with them been compatible with anything, they always run no matter what system) and vrious other games from the early 90's timeframe, And if so which version of xp would be best for me?

(bit dim when it comes to computers so please keep it simple :) )Xp has only 1 version. XP. XP has updates called Service Packs.

90% of games should work, if they are running 2 fast. I suggest using DosBox

With a Dosbox Frontend

Other Dosbox Frontends

If you want games with confirmed compatibility which has been updated for newer version of windows I suggest buying the games from

They have reprogrammed the games to be able to work even on Windows 7. Also all games are DRM free.
Download steam then use your old key codes on the back of the book or case to buy the games through steam, worked with me on games like Halflife which are old, steam have compatible versions :)
Try right clicking on it and select properties. Select compatibility and set it to 95/98. That should work in any version of windows.
there are websites where older games are free ,so i think they will be compatible
