How bad of an investment is a gaming laptop compared to a gaming desktop?

-In other words, can an $800 desktop outperform a $2000 laptop or is a $2000 laptop = $2000 desktop? If the previous is true, why don't I just by a cheap notebook and settle for a gaming desktop right?

Anyway, how BAD IS IT REALLY?Laptops cannot have a true dedicated graphics card. They are mobile cards which is the biggest problem with gaming on a laptop.

Yes a 800$ desktop can outperform a $2000 laptop soley because of the video card.

In fact you would be well off with a cheap internet surfing laptop and a gaming desktop.

Ram, CPU and Video card are what defines a gaming desktop. Seeing as you cannot get a true quad core laptop for under3k nor could you have a non mobility card in said laptop then any desktop would be better. Dual core with a GTX570, 580 HD 6970 etc. would all outperform any laptop.

It's pretty bad. In fact, I would consider the term "Gaming Laptop" to be an oxymoron.
Gaming laptops cost more than gaming desktops and desktops can easily be upgraded wheras laptops can't. Buy a 450 dollar laptop and an 800 dollar desktop. I upgraded my desktop game pc after 3 years for 320 dollars with a new mobo, ram, and a quadcore cpu. I did the work myself. Check prices at Newegg.com.
I would recommend you a desktop computer.Laptop is a delicate device and gaming on that is not adviced although if u travel and want to play games and keep all ur stuff with you go for a laptop. It all depends on ur needs.
