-I'm looking to upgrade the processor I have, a last step before going for a new PC. I would be looking for bang for buck, if it were to cost too much, I'd jump for a new PC.
My PC is a home built (not by me) with an Asus M2N68-AM SE2 motherboard. I think I'm right in saying this is an AM2+ socket. at present I have an Athlon x3 425 2.7 ghz, so I'd want it to be a worthwhile jump in performance too.
It'd be great if you were pretty specific, thanks for any adviceSimply visit the ASUS product support page for that board, hit the 'CPU Compatibility' list, and just upgrade to the highest-supported CPU it can take. Make sure you're running the latest BIOS on it before upgrading. You should be able to install a Phenom II X4 quad, or even a Phenom II X6-core. Socket AM3 processors are all backwards-compatible with socket AM2+ boards. All that would be required is a BIOS update. Again, double-check the product support page for that board at http://www.ASUS.com/ and see.Looking around Newegg is seems they no longer sell CPUs for the AM2+ socket, you may be able to find a used cpu on ebay but your best bet is going to be upgrading the whole computer.
Pssst, Chad is an idiot, there is no AMD Phenom x4 950, there is only the N950 which is for laptops, and all the 900 series cards are AM3 socket.
look, only upgrading the CPU is a waste of resources .
the Mobo+CPU+Rams are a group and should be upgraded together to obtain maximum return on investment and pc performance.
idk
thanks sopps i meant amd phenom x4 955
