-I'm going to be doing movie sound and video editing. Looking to build a new computer for it. Should I go duel or quad core? AMD or intel?I would go with AMD as they can do up to 6 cores at once and their newer processors come with their own integrated graphics that crossfires with the motherboard's integrated graphics. They are also cheaper and can multitask better than intel. get an AMD A-series APU as they are the best you can get at this moment and do what an Intel processor can do and more. This is better for what you use it for.You should go for a quad core processor as dual core cannot handle huge work and it is now outdated. Now coming to the brand,I think you should go for intel i5/i7 quad core processor as the beat amd phenom x4 in all aspects. Also look for sandy bridge processor.i5 2600k is the best among all amd and intel quad core processor.
Quad core for what you want.I would recommend Intel because they make faster units. AMD will give you the best unit for the price but they dont "make" fast processors. They make cheap processors for a cheap price.
Take a look at the Macbook Pros, those are the studio standard in audio recording.
Pure power go Intel, but you have to drop a few coin.
AMD is good because for what you pay, you get good performance, not amazing, maybe great, but not amazing.
Anyway, if you're going to go Intel, go quad core.
AMD go 6 core, you won't regret it.
Intel processors consistently outperform AMD across the board. If you want performance, get a high-end Intel that's at least a quad-core.
AMD might be a good choice if you're on a strict budget.
AMD for graphic works like AutoCAD and 3ds max and gaming
Intel for common uses
-----but remember AMD cpus usually have shorter lifetime
AMD is all round the best value.
Intel
Quad core
