-I recently had a black homescreen due to a virus and i did a system restore to one day ago. This fixed the black screen and everything but i lost a lot of files if not all. It is likely that whatever virus infected your system deleted your files.
Anything that you keep on your system that is irreplaceable should be backed up periodically to an external drive, a flash drive, a dvd or cd Drives crash and files get lost - that is the nature of pc's.
best way to recover any file is by using recovery software, but you must act quickly before that file will gone forever because everything that you do, installing, downloading anything you do can make this file lost forever, my best recommendation is asoftech data recovery which helped me before

If you performed a system restore just after you killed off the virus then you are still infected with it.
To remove a virus you turn off the system restore and reboot, and only then can you kill off all the ugly stuff on your hard drive.
System restore does not affect any personal files/folders, such as photos etc.
So they should still be there, unless you did a system recovery by mistake?
